Fundraising
Even volunteer managed and run large scale charity events require large scale fundraising too. We raised over $100,000 from community groups to purchase food at scale with volume discounts.
Social Media
Creating a groundswell of supporters and media attention required the food drive to go viral. We launched one of the first large scale crowdfunding campaigns before sites like Indiegogo or GoFundMe were popular.
Corporate Partnerships
Building relationships with corporate partners was essential. Companies like Walmart and Food Lion worked with us to provide food, donations, logistics support, volunteers, and more.
Community Engagement
Many organizations want to be a part of a larger movement so we teamed up with the Latter-Day Saints, numerous K12 schools, local colleges and university as well as retirement homes and civic organizations.
Build a Movement
The world record breaking food drive took a year of planning and hundreds of volunteers who were motivated to tackle food insecurity in North Carolina. The world record attempt itself helped us make a big tent.
Multiple Attempts
If at first you don't succeed, try again! Our first attempt in 2010 raised about 300,000 pounds of food but we came back in 2011 with more partnerships and scale to raise 559,885 pounds of food.
